Yeah I suppose, but at least we still have them, I think it was great that the science museum also saved a 247 and a connie

The DC 3 they have is an early pre war example too.
Also a Lockheed 10A Electra.
They were savers of aircraft early on, before it was ever thought of to save stuff. Many of what they did save probably would not have been...Gloster Whittle jet, HP Gugnunc and genuine wartime Spit and Hurricane saved at the time.
A masterful collection, some hidden even at Wroughton, some loaned out, but at least they got saved.
Not that it would happen, but, if even a Comet was to fly again, that would be the only option and since it has been kept under cover since it flew in, is probably in good overall condition.
Forget Canopus, she was never standard so is full of unknowns.

Agreed, unlikely though it is, their Comet would be the best candidate by far!

Speaking of Wroughton, I had the opportunity to visit there earlier this year having made contact with their Museum staff by way of letter.
Sadly, they could only accommodate visits of one hour maximum as their staff on site are volunteers and have other duties.
I didn't go, as for me the visit is just too long a journey for a one hour sitting.
Plus it would take me an hour to look around just one aircraft nevermind the entire collection.
I will bite the bullet one day and head down there. Its too good a collection to turn your nose up at.

I did get to go round there a few years ago when we were shooting the Honda Type-R brochure.
The opening and closing spreads were shot on the runway. It was a fascinating (very short) view into a real treasure trove!

When I went, Trident 1E G-AVYE had been pushed out into the car park for dismantling and return to Hatfield and had been replaced by G-AWZM
It is the only time I ever parked in a car park between a Ford Transit and an HS Trident...I think

Cheers John...Yes but the date is out.
G-AVYE sat outside for a while after 'ZM was delivered in Feb 1986...I saw G-AVYE ther in, I think, 1987.
