He was a lovely character and had a way about him that always made you smile. For many years I wouldn't miss an episode of Roobarb and Custard. Can you imagine how boring that would have been without him doing the voice-over?

The article in The Times this morning has some interesting insights. Apparently, Penelope Keith became a close family friend after 'The Good Life' and remained so to the end, yet he said that he and Felicity Kendal were never friends. Although he did comment that she sent a very nice card when he became ill with emphysema. He claimed that 'it was the ciggies that got me' and estimated that he'd smoked 500,000 over the course of his life! It's funny, I'd never have put him down as a smoker.
