I agree with the safety concerns and also the point made about what's the point of having a safety regulator if they're not allowed to regulate. As far as the Shar goes.. I don't see it as any more or less 'dangerous' (for want of a better word) than say, a Hunter.. plenty of which still fly in the UK.

If accommodations can be made for it, then all well and good and if they can't.. so be it

I have to agree Dave. The lightening accident in SA, was down to poor (non existent) maintenance, and lack of controls / process / SOPs etc. If equipment can be fully maintained and operated within the required standards then I can't see a reason not to operate it. Theres just as much risk from Engine cowlings on an A319 it would seem.

The thing is, statistically it is more dangerous, i.e. more accidents/flying hour and is more complicated in terms of maintenance which I think is the CAA's main bug-bear.

Maybe the answer I should have given was:-
Human bum cheeks are not a high blood circulation area of the body, having no essential organs to keep at working temperature.
I think that men's bum cheeks are cooler or colder than the rest of their body - mine are. It's not just women.
But where's the fun in that?

Have to say I am with the CAA on this one, and I don't agree with them often; they stuck to their guns with the Lightning and were proven correct to do so. The Harrier is a far more complicated ac than the Hunter to both fly and maintain so that is not a good argument. As with many of the ac, I would rather see a very good example kept in a museum in top condition than have huge amounts of money diverted to keep one ac flying... I would say the same about the Vulcan and even more so with the current idea of trying to keep a VC10 flying.

Just my 2p's worth... so sadly not signing that petition...
