SkippyBing, Airbus have already changed the design of the A350 so that it no longer has the Li batteries. This was done shortly after the initial grounding of the Screamliner.

Airbus were able to change because they've not got electric brakes like the 787, so Boeing are stuck with Lithium Ion batteries.

I'm sure once Boeing iron out the probs with the batteries, Airbus'll take another look at 'em.

Poor old Boeing!

Maybe they should implement a callout for the systems management computer.

If that is true then Boeing must be sighing with relief!! as will its' customers!! But the question must be why did the cut-out not operate?

I thought it might be a galley fire when I saw the picture but as I'm usually rubbish at my suppositions I uncharacteristically kept quiet. Shame - I might have gained some respect

Yes, it was common enough back in the day but with small open water boilers called hot cups. When they boiled dry they could catch fire. Most galley fires, though, are caused by a crew meal left to cook in the oven and then forgotten. Open the oven after a couple of hours, let the oxygen in and bang

Galley power was a very important switch and all crew members knew where that was. I don't know where it figured on the check list but it was the first switch to go on when boarding the aircraft. Can't work without a cuppa!

One wag of a Captain at BIA told a very new member of cabin crew that a redundant switch in the galley put the gear down. After a ding on approach the lass in question stuck her head round the door to be told in no uncertain terms "For god's sake put the wheels down!!!!"

Much mirth in the pub later.
