I did not realise it was widely used , because by the time I started flying ( late 60s ) most of the wooden wonders had disappeared, more's the pity. And Nigel , as for G-ARGG, I did my tailwheel conversion on it with a lovely girl called Jane Murdoch at Blackpool , presumably about the same time you are talking about . Sadly, she was killed when she lost a baggage door on a twin coming back from Norway and had to ditch in the North Sea
Yes, I knew Jane and remember the time of the accident, very sad. Had my first trial lesson with her, lovely lady.

Just to resuscitate this thread, my son has actually now got round to buying the share in G-BBMZ , ( ex WK548 ) , based at Booker. Now bright scarlet ! I hope I may have a ride or two in it so I will report back if I do so

Just make him aware that there are no grab handles for when the instructor decides to have some upside-down fun, as I found out the first time mine did so - I was clinging on to the sides of the thing, trying to grip something... anything!

But I had a huge grin on my face when I climbed out - which one of the ground crew was very quick to point out. I think they felt some job satisfaction that day.

5AEF at Halton, iirc - flying around Duxford, with me practicing my VFR navigating skills - "follow the A1, son". Very exciting.

Oh, well thanks for that tip, John. He has flown Extra 300s for some years so he's quite used to upside down flying !

Chris , well done to your boy . I think it's a good , long established group . Indeed if he gets pregnant ... get him to ask Jackie if she still has the control column she had made with the nice convex curve in it ..... to go round her baby bump ; when she was expecting ... 20 + years ago !
