Already had a blue badge Dave, if only to get somewhere close to the shop I want in Filey during the season.

I'm missing my evening wander along the cliff tops at the moment - banned. Just had my foot dressed by the District Nurse and asked her how far I am permitted to walk. "Can't tell you, just don't walk to Filey (2 1/2 miles." Not much danger of that. I could do it, but would require a packed lunch and tea it would take that long - even before the latest episode .

Banned from driving as well, for obvious reasons.

About 300 yards - and out of bounds at the minute - have a good supply of malt in though.

When we moved here, the lads up north asked about the nearest watering hole. When I told them it was a case of, "Bloody 'ell, couldn't you have got a house a bit nearer?"

I could have actually - about 50 yards away, but I thought the exercise would do me good.

Hi Graham! I've just been away for a couple of nights too. Thing is I came back intact. I was going to say that you were being a bit careless to lose appendages while you were on a break. But then the memsahib reminded that we were in a 4 star hotel in Southampton and that sort of thing is more frowned on than in, say, York hospital. I'll have to take her word for it as I can only remember in York being in the Railway museum and Betty's. I'm pretty sure I'd have remembered if they'd lopped off a limb or two in those places... Maybe I was lucky!

Anyway, I'm sure it was more traumatic than you are making light of it and I hope that it wasn't too stressful. I also hope that your recovery is quick and relatively pain free. It's a good excuse to buy yourself a fancy walking stick but don't go too near the cliff edge in case you overbalance if you forget the missing toe - leaning over the edge for a look, for instance!

Let us know how the recovery goes and maybe Google for a local visiting podiatrist or whatever they're called. It'd be easier to have someone round to cut your toenails rather than have your toes cut off. On the other hand - it's cheaper and you are a Yorkshireman!!!!

Regarding the op, considering I was told I was going in for an overnight stay to have a boat load of antibiotics pumped into me, yes it came as a slight shock. Op done a 16.30 Wednesday. Angiogram, blockage un-bunging and vein widening done about the same time Friday evening to improve blood supply.

I escaped on Tuesday evening, along with the rest of the guys in my room - great bunch who helped to pass the time more quickly with the banter.#

I know it is de rigeur to know the NHS these days, but I can honestly say that the treatment I received, from the moment the ambulance came to coming home again was absolutely first class. I was treated by all as a person, not just a number, and better still as far as I am concerned, the grub was excellent.

Graham , that's really slacking you know ; had to wait until page 2 before the 1st joke emerged !
You don't have to buy a fancy walking stick ... the NHS lent me a pair of crutches 2 weeks ago [ snapped bone in foot ] , will be finishing with them in 2 days .... could lose them and put a couple of stamps on ... might have to bend them a bit to get in post box 'tho ; but they are new and NHS has been really great .
