I'm also confused (not hard to confuse me) because the registration on the UTair fuselage starts with VQ- ....And why is a Russian airline flying Boeings ?
A bit late on this one but the modern Russian a/c, such as the Tu-204 family, the Il-96M/Il-96-300 and Il-96-400 just aren't competitive on a global scale (cheaper purchase price but likely higher operating costs, especially fuel consumption) and knowing that their indigenous products are thus at a disadvantage, the Russian government imposes very high taxes on the import of foreign airframes into Russia, therefore the aircraft are registered abroad in a place of convenience. Transaero has aircraft registered in Ireland as another example.
