Hi Roger. There are many issues which have not been addressed.Consider the Republic of Ireland which has it's own civil service depts including the DVLA,it's own armed forces, health system, postal service, broadcasting service and so on.Plus the fact that if you were to call someone in ROI or send them a letter.I assume that european charges would apply.Consider how many people have family both sides of the border.
The SNP have already stated that many more immigrant 'workers' would be needed to pay for pensions etc.
However the currency is the really big issue.I was speaking to a friend who intends voting yes and who, like me, receives a company pension paid from the funds of a company based south of the border. This pension is paid in Sterling so if Scotland goes Independant and has it's own currency then exchange rates come into play viz a viz expats in Europe with the fluctuating value of Sterling/Euro rates.
It seems that he hadn't given any thought to this. :dunno: EricT

I'm wondering what happens to England.....it isn't recognised by the EU, only as a United Kingdom! Maybe Nigel Farrar will be pleased if it helps getting us out of the EU?

It occurred to me after watching this, why don't they follow the Canadian model. Here in BC and I assume most other provinces, we pay little attention to what goes on in Ottawa. It's just so darned far away. All Provinces have their own local laws, local taxes, local health care, local education etc etc. Ottawa yes we pay them taxes and they provide defence and a few other things. Other than that we have nothing to do with them. There are some oddities, e.g. gas (petrol) process vary wildly nationally and it is illegal to export wine from BC to another Province, but otherwise it works pretty well.
Anyway that is enough from me, I look forward to Sept 18th and the result... pretty sure it'll be NO though. Hoots Mon!

Fundamentally the proportion of votes has not shifted significantly since the Yes campaign started near on two years ago.

During the first debate Alex only seemed to make one statement of fact - and that was a lie. He claimed that the SNP won a majority of votes in the last Scottish election. Not true. They won about 44% of the vote - more than any other individual party but still less than 50% which was a majority when I did sums at school. Oh and that 44% was of a voting total of 50% of the electorate. So only 22% of Scots actually bothered to vote for the SNP.

Support for the Yes campaign seems mostly to be based on gut feeling, which is the only justification I can see for the continuing support of the SNP lack of policy beyond saying it will be alright on the night in answer to any awkward questions. :bandit: :bandit: :bandit:
