Yes it is similar Mike, but it is a much shorter video in a four ship as opposed to five and it does not have the "Yi Ha"s...The main point is that all four, at low level, roll to inverted and then close it to very close...In the case of the box man, extremely close. Then they move out again to loose Box and each rolls back to upright. Close formation while properly inverted in sustained level flight it extremely difficult to master as you have to reverse your normal aileron movement and getting that wrong while close can be disaster.

I spent nearly seven years in four ship formation aeros teams and I did try it in the line astern position...I was absolutely unable the force myself to reverse that aileron movement for more than a few seconds. I quickly abandoned any thoughts of formation flying while on negative lift.

Thanks for your pointer...i have saved it :agree:

I saw it through the second link on your timeline Peter. I had to log in to Facebook to see it though. I suspect that the problem with your other link is that it's to a page of someone I'm not a 'friend' of, and viewing is restricted to friends only.

Jon
Jon, yes I think you have it right and that is why I "Shared" it to my timeline so that anyone who has a FB account could see it. That really proves the point because the original URL was to a "Friend"'s post. BTW...It is worth watching the shadows on the ground in that video :)

Funnily enough, I was thinking of you this breakfast time when Movies for men Channel 48 had Fighters of the 50s and 60s , including a lot of Hunter footage incl that most fantastic of teams the Black Arrows
Well that very close bit from number four was a bit OTT really but the whole four ship, level, inverted sequence was very impressive indeed :agree: ...Watch the shadows on the ground :)

I did notice the shadows Peter. After the first viewing I thought that zooming the camera might have given a false idea of closeness, but the overlapping shadows on the ground and their separation as the aircraft move apart confirms what was happening.

Thanks for posting it.

:agree: Peter,
I was stunned to hear that stupid yelling. :|
Anyone with the connections to fly as a passenger with them, should have had more respect.
I could only imagine that he wasn't plugged into the intercom.
Cheers, Mike.

Mike, in my original video post:-

They were flying straight and level at low altitude in Loose Box...Then they all did a quick 180 roll to inverted.

Then with all four inverted, they moved into Close Box like this:-

Image
Look at the shadows on the ground to see how close they are.

Then the box man moved in very close to here:-

Image
They are all still inverted remember!

Finally they moved back out to Loose Box...Then all four did a quick 180 roll to upright. :agree:
