It will indeed Joe. I've already been hit for threatening to turn the volume down to the 'wife' setting

Hi Dave,

Join the club. I have a pair of hearing aids which Like yours are programmed for my mainly high frequency hearing loss. Mine also have three different settings like a graphic equaliser. There's normal, noisy environment and a TV setting for watching the box. The noisy setting supposedly amplifies the sound coming from in front of me more than sound from behind which is useful in restaurants. I say 'supposedly' because it doesn't seem that effective.
Batteries last about a week or 8 days and cost €10 for six or three weeks worth. Unfortunately the servizio sanità nazionale decided that my hearing loss isn't bad enough for them to pay anything.

Strewth Jon.. how poor does your hearing have to be.. profound??

This has all been a bit 'slow motion' for me. I had the perf fixed a tad over 2 years ago. A week later, the stitches were pulled and about 6 weeks later.. I had the follow-up appointment. That's the last I heard until the end of January when I got the appointment for Mar 24th :-O The senior registrar I saw happened to be one of the team who did the op. She said I should have had another appointment 2 months after the follow-up for the hearing aid. Needless to say.. I didn't 8) Ah well.. they may have forgotten about me altogether

Old age is no picnic. I made need an eye operation because I have a nerve pulling on my retina - all due to diabetes. I already been through four laser treatments - two in each eye and that was a real fun time - NOT. Ah well, at least some parts still work!

Best wishes for that, Nigel. ;)
Mrs Airspeed has an oedema, too close to the centre of the retina to use laser.
They're saying that eye injections will have to be done soonish.
They were going to start last month, but fortunately there was a slight improvement in the swelling, so they've deferred.
Cheers, Mike.

Looks as if this getting old lark is damned expensive!!, I know I need my hearing serviced, it's never been right since suffering 2 explosive decomp's in the 80's but my hearing is the last thing on the list at the moment.

No better over here cost wise, my ex had her bottom teeth removed and a set of dentures last year, $26,000 for that job!!!!

Nigel, hope you get sorted matey .

Yup.. good luck with the op Nige

Mike.. I can't imagine what an injection in the eye would be like. Good grief man :hide:

First day at work with the new ear has been a bit of a revelation. I've heard a lot of new things which has helped and I've also heard a lot I don't care for much  Back home now and a few moments ago, I heard the timer go off in the kitchen. That timer has been outside my freq range for so long, I'd almost forgotten what it sounded like. Hey.. I may even be able to hear the battery warning beeper on my RC transmitter now instead of having to constantly look down at the timer countdown :excited:
