Paul,

give me a shout if you're in my neck of the woods, I'll buy you a cup of tea. Which will probably be an unfortunate bad cuppa.
because, apparently, we don't do it properly, ... but know this , my heart is in the right place, and it's the thought that counts. ;)

  Will do, Joe. THe USA is a great place to visit and tour around - it's so easy. I think my next visit will include a visit to the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB. It a day's drive from my sister's place near Pittsburgh, but I'm used to renting cars and driving over there. I must see the XB-70 before I expire. It is, in my humble opinion, the single most fabulous aircraft ever built. :)

After that, I need to visit at least one of each class of your preserved battleships - one of the Iowas, one of the South Dakota class and so on. Then I'll come for a cuppa !

Gents, I'd just like to make it clear that I started this thread purely as a joke and not as a political statement and certainly not as criticism, in any form, of the USA.To add to previous comments, I'd say that of the places that I've been to on this planet, some of the best experiences that I've had both in terms feeling welcome and of dramatic scenery( particularly the west and south west) have been in the US.In answer to any critics of the US that I've heard over hear, I say that I'd much rather have the US an an ally than an enemy! :) EricT

Who is Holly Madison anyway ? And why are there so many people over there named Madison - both forename and surname ? Are they ...cough...Appalachian and Ozarks folks ? You know what I'm saying here, don't you.

Again, Joe,
You're too close to see the facts.
I bemoan the number of girls in Australia called Madison.
Everyone in the global village thinks they're copying America and being cool, but they obviously aren't, 'cos America isn't actually doing it. :S
If you're going to be part of this global village, you just have to keep up, that's what I'm saying, Mate. ;) Take note of what others are doing.
As far as being polite, it doesn't work with a big chunk of society; some years back, I and two young women were scurrying towards the same moving staircase. I stopped to let them on first, and they both burst out laughing. :$
More than once, I've done the door thing, only to have them grunt and shove past me as if I'd made an indecent suggestion.
I felt like slapping their faces. If I was quick-witted enough, I'd trip them up as they passed.

Dave :hello:
That's right, nothing spoiled, we got two for the price of one! :agree:

Mike,
I have been opening doors for women and men alike since - I can't remember when, If I'm treated poorly, I continue to treat those who are unkind, - with kindness, as kindly as I know how.

Maybe I am to close to see - facts . of particular situations
My question is: what exactly are the "facts" and whos opinion of what the facts are. am I to agree with.

I can only say this, return unkindness with kindness.

Am I perfect in doing that, in every instance, No, I am not,

See my response here

PS
To say the United States is not civilized in any way shape or form is complete hogwash,

opps :worried:

I did say that with all the kindness I can muster, at the mo.

Cheers :)
