Dave G, I just added more above.
You should be able to check your model, and see what you included.
And IMHO, you're not a numpty.

Try telling the missus that.
I'll check the source code tonight, but from memory it should be a straight forward visibility tag same as the chocks and tiedowns etc. I've used the same code in most of my models.

My comments above were based on sitting at a small airport in New Zealand. (Missing objects warnings about buildings.)
I've just done some more testing.
Mariana Islands North: Pagan Airstrip, virtually no scenery, the invisible man shadow is not present on any of my 3 paint schemes.
Mariana Islands North: Tinian International, Missing objects warnings about buildings......Hello! He's back!!!
It has something to do with scenery complexity, possibly where objects are missing.
So, Dennis 511,
Suggestions: (A) try remote locations;
(B) if you don't have the warnings turned on, add the bit we were talking about in the BP Defiant post, and see if you're missing objects.

It's not a shadow of the pilot in his seat, it's in the wrong place for that. It's a figure standing in front of the parked aircraft.
I beg to differ. Slew the model around and you will see the figure in the sitting position. It
appears he's standing up at one particular angle but slew the aircraft off that angle and he's sitting.
Modelled parts without textures don't tend to go invisible.. they tend to display in the colour they were modelled in.. eg black/white/whatever and without a texture.

Figured out what's causing it. Bones! The Auster pilot uses a skinned mesh with bones for animation rather than the "old" method of separately animated parts for arms, legs etc. One drawback of this is you can't use visibility tags (the mesh goes haywire), so when the pilot "disappears" he's actually just moved out of sight, in this case about 10ft underground.

Seems FSX gets confused and still projects his shadow on the ground.
