Actually, the problem is that everyone "didn't" do the right thing apparently. The moment the 2nd Row starter raised the red flag (visible in the first video) and Thom opened his cockpit, the start was supposed to be held until they could get him clear or the racers behind notified. The start wasn't waved off and the 3rd row pilots weren't notified so they took off, even though they weren't supposed to. The mitigating issue in the whole thing is that this all occurred in only a few seconds, so the time to realize and react was very slim before an accident occurred since the engine problems happened so close to the start.

Personally, having watched this, I think that IF1 will make a modification to either how planes are lined up on the start (staggering alternating rows or going in pairs instead of trios), or they will modify the start procedure that if a plane "declares" before the flag is dropped, they completely wave off the start and clear the problem aircraft.

To me, the bigger issue came that same day when one of the Gold Bi-Plane racers landed fast, bounced several times, and then ran into the winning aircraft on the runway because he didn't go-around like he should have. That impact, while wing-to-wing, was at a much higher speed and had a much higher chance of doing serious harm to the pilots of both planes.

Hi Chris,
What I meant by putting it in " ", was that everybody thought that they had followed the rules.
Obviously there was an error, "but it wasn't me"

Sorry, guess I wasn't clear enough in my point. The failure based on the accounts and what you see with the videos seems to be that the failure was more with the procedure in place than any individual person (i.e. that there was too little time for people to react to the problem once Thom "declared"). Everyone individually did what they were supposed to, but as a whole they "didn't" because it resulted in an incident which the procedure was supposedly designed to avoid, hence my quotes.

:dunno:
I looked up "pumping gas" to see if there was a street talk meaning.
I was given a series of "how-to" suggestions on putting fuel in your car.
I'm wondering if they have the same for breathing, using toilet paper, and other important life skills. 8)
How do folks manage to get out of bed in the mornings? Oh? There's a tutorial video on that, too, eh?

Doin' a bit more than pumping gas these days. Still working in aviation, but got a few more responsibilities than just a normal Line Tech.
