Excellent idea Mike. It'll also cover up the lack of grass after I put moss killer down. Having got rid of the dead moss with an electric lawn rake, there was no grass either and the 'fast growing' seed is FAR from fast growing 8) The only time she's thought the front lawn looked ok since I killed it was when we woke up to a covering of snow in April

Perhaps I could say that beer cans had started growing instead  :guinn:

Sheer panic  Looking at that flight.. airliners don't arse around do they. Her flight out on the A319 made good time and despite a quick loop north of Hastings, it was still early getting to Gatwick. This said.. she was onboard with engines running at Naples for over 25mins before taking off. Flightradar24 doesn't give the whole picture though so the airport could have been busier than was visible on the screen.

Transponders are switched off on the ground and that kills the ADS-B output as well. They could have several long lines of airliners waiting to depart and you wouldn't see them on the Flightradar screen. That said, on some airports their own vehicles are transponder equipped to show up on the ground movement radar. It can be fun to zoom in on Schiphol Airport for example to see where the bird patrol is operating that day (look for a vehicle with 'KV' and a number).

Hi Jelle :hello:

Yup.. having watched her out-going and return flights.. I noticed they're a bit shy turning the transponders on. Generally, they're on right up to the gate (or darned close to) but not so when they're about to leave. I noticed airport vehicles at Gatwick were coming up with transponders.. two on the day of her flight out. Never seen that before but it's only high days and holidays I look on FR to be honest.

Some airports will require transponders to be on all the time whilst taxiing, presumably for a feed to ATC. Washington Dulles was one of those IIRC. :)

Hi guys!

Yeah, I guess it's for ATC purposes, especially in low visibility conditions or when it's a busy airport. I've never checked the details but I think that you're right, they keep the transponder on until parked at the gate. In a Cessna or Piper I switch the transponder on when turning onto the runway, and off when vacating the runway. The general airliner may be a bit more pressed for time of course ;)

Just be nice, make her meals and mollycoddle her. She wont go again as she will be suspicious of what you have been up to.
