Classic British Flight Sim

Hi Paul, before I downloaded Blitz I went to Documents/1C SoftClub and renamed the il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder with .old at the end (not the MOD one). A new one will then be created as you download the Blitz version from Steam, you do need to remap your settings for the aircraft which is a bit of a bind. Once installed you then have 2 icons for Clod, one will be for V4.3 and the other for V4.5 so you get the best of both worlds if not happy with V4.5

Have not yet flown the Spitfire against other people in ATAG but from what I have heard those who fly the 109's no longer have it all their way performance wise so it is going to be interesting to see whether some switch to the British side now they have lost all the advantages!!

Am I blind or what I cannot seem to see an entry for the HAT switch in settings

Alex, if you go to the key settings tab and select whatever you need for your HAT Switch i.e. look left/ Field of View + or - just push the HAT Switch into the direction you want to assign that to i.e. left or forward etc. Should work.

I found them difficult to locate, and couldn't get mistakes to clear, had to over-write another function using the same key/axis.
I decided to try a basic take off training flight.
The blasted throttle was reversed, and the rudder was operating off the left toe brake; the POV refused to do anything, though I later found that my POV expectations were all set as default, so I'm totally confused.
By the time I realised any of this (there's no "test" section to confirm anything before starting a flight), the instructor had lost patience with me, and resumed control. He must have been out of his mind by this time, as we hit a wall of sandbags, blew up and both died. Well, they said it was an accurate simulation, and I've read that training losses were about the same as combat losses, so there you go. A very short career.

Angus & Nigel - thanks for the response, seems a bit counter to that which we expect these days but I'll cope with it. COD I have had for years and never really used it, so the Blitz for free was unexpected. It does look good though. It's just finding enough time, that is the problem.

Hi Mike, this is one big headache and you are not alone with this problem, even the delete or clear function does not get rid of the previously saved keystrokes. I just keep trying until it goes through.

On the Select Controls under Aircraft there are three options Events - Command - Reverse. If you find that for instance, throttles are not increasing but decreasing when you open them up click in the box Reverse then you will find it to work properly, as for the steering using brakes there are no left/right brakes on the Hurricane, you have to apply power and then apply both brakes i.e. through the keyboard key-stroke 'B' and then apply rudder to turn. I ended up halfway across the airfield away from the runway before being told this!!

Selecting the hat switch to various commands is easy, just double click the command and push the hat switch where you want to assign the event. All your previous aircraft settings from 4.3 are not carried through to 4.5 and you have to re-assign all functions which is bit of a b*gger. Though thankfully found that my gun settings remained as they were.

if any-one interested below are my gun setouts for the Spitfire and Hurricane as this can be a pain to get right, you may think these settings for vertical are too much but when turning with a 109 and using deflection shooting it gives a spread rather like that of a shotgun and gets results though requires a lot of practice. I have had great success with these settings and loadout.

Set range for 210 yards on the sights and don't forget the wingspan settings 34 for 109 and 74 for Dorniers. AP = Armour Piercing. Only have tracers on outer guns. The Hurricane Horizontal differs from the Spitfire due to the close grouping of the guns.

Logging on to my Steam account I find that the IL-2 Blitz is not free as discussed on these pages. Apparently it is at a 'special' price of £14-61 until 4 January 2018.

Where is it for free??

Allan, you got the earlier IL2-CoD, modded by Team Fusion, in Steam ? You only get Blitz free if you've already bought that earlier version; otherwise, it's a new purchase.

Confirm, I have a bought copy of IL2-CoD, modded by Team Fusion and this has recently been updated by said team Is that the Blitz update already on my PC?

My wife says "Relax, it's only a hobby...."

I had already reversed the throttle after the big smash.
Glad to see it wasn't just me having trouble cancelling assignments.
Had another go today; unfortunately, the instructor voice doesn't match the action, and we're already taxying quite fast when he's still talking of starting the engine.
OK, the throttle and POV both went OK, but the yoke control was less successful. I received another earful about the worst flying he's seen, and he resumed control. Sat back to observe. He joined the circuit, did a few turns, requested landing permission, received it, then suddenly did a violent roll and smacked into a hangar. Again, we both sim-died! I was also surprised to see the on-screen message about leading edge slats to 100% as we were lining up. First I've heard of a Tiger Moth with that feature; read about it, and it is real.
