My latest tin of Dubbin:

The odd shape around the Dubbin text reminds me of the shape of the twisty thing on the side of the can...used to pry off the lid.

How true - do you expect an Observer Badge for that, Brian?

btw, if you and others only have memories of the smell of KIWI, what do you polish your shoes with?

I also get to hear the sound of Merlins and of the Dakota when the Battle of Britain aircraft fly over and near my home. Never fails to send a tingle down my spine.

Nigel.

I miss the sound of F-86s, the Golden Hawks used to practice over my house at treetop level, along with frequent sonic booms. The dog was less impressed than I and would wimper and - mysteriously - start limping. I musy admit it scared the crap out of me a few times when I didn't hear them coming. Miss the smell of my Dad's tobacco pouch, and waking up Saturday morning to the smell of my Mom's baking.

Been sitting here tonight and realised my dog's farts haven't changed their aroma over the years.

Yet another aroma and that is one sorry, two things that awaken my senses......The smell of fresh coffee beans when passing a shop that sells 'em and best of all, the smell of bacon being cooked.

Another smell from the past is that of the smell of burning wood so long as you are not too close.

Another smell that I remember well is that of a Vulcan taxiing quite some distance away and if the wind falls towards you from it, the smell of burn kerosene is quite distinctive.

Now is there anything else I have omitted? *-)

Regards
Nigel.

Burnt cabbage or Brussel sprouts?

Smell of bacon & onion roly poly cooking, my Grandmother made a gorgeous one every Monday wash day in the 'copper' after doing the week's wash.
