I saw a clip from one of the Police programmes where a motor cyclist had one of those plate concealers. He was filmed using it by a plain clothes unit. He got sent to prison for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Here in california drivers of new cars would take advantage of the fact new cars had no licence plate to avoid red light cameras and bridge tools, just a little paper certificate stuck on the front windshield that is too small to be read by any camera. Even Steve Jobs would buy himself a new AMG Mercedes every six months so he could not be tracked by his license plate.

But no more of that, new cars get a temporary license plate before you leave the dealer, and that cute trick in the video would get you in a load of trouble when the authorities spotted it.

That policeman must have been new, his uniform wasn't creased one bit.

*-) When I get back to the station, I'm going to mail him a few charges:
Speeding;
Failing to produce licence when requested;
Attempting to bribe a police officer;
I'll think of some more on the way.
