Who titles their exhibits? Maybe next year it will be the supersonic civil transport you've never heard of?

We have to keep in mind that we are not the stereotypical IWM visitor that those who do title these exhibitions are trying to draw through their doors. I reckon that there are still many out there who think that the Spitfire single-handedly won the entire war by shooting down V2s, sinking submarines, dropping atomic bombs and cracking the Enigma in its spare time.

It is a unique occasion to see such a collection of airworthy examples together. And for the less-initiated, they will have a chance to compare, see the differences and perhaps learn a bit about this type's place in history. To each their own.

Fair point, have a listen to this podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOZxiO-CuwQ about the exhibition which followed on from a previous exhibition about the Spitfire. Visitor feedback from the Spitfire exhibition included 'what about the Hurricane?' Visitor feedback when the Hurricane was mentioned included 'what's a Hurricane?'

Visited the exhibition today, so here's a selection of random shots in no specific order, with Mike's requested starboard side cockpit close-ups ( or as close up as I could get them ). Only six of the promised seven aircraft are on display, but at least there was one that got off the ground.

You may be able to zoom in a bit more than I can, using your original shots.
The long stencil just above the wing root appears to read:

"CONTROL LOCKING GEAR HOLDING DOWN WINGS
& STORAGE FOR HOOD COVER INSIDE"

One or two letters do not look exactly as I've typed, and "HOLDING DOWN WINGS" is a bit of a mystery to me.
Maybe the locking gear is located, or "held down" the end of the wing, but why "WINGS"?

Sorry to be pedantic, but all of my stencil queries to various museums have been fruitless.
Interesting to see the variations in Squadron and aircraft letter sizes; I've seen specs on letter height and thickness, which could be made smaller if required to fit the physical limitations of the fuselage. Some in your photos are huge.

I was there today and it definitely reads:

& STORAGE FOR HOOD COVER INSIDE

Most others lacked this text!

I'll try to get a copy uploaded tonight. a nice sunny day, there was even a Blenheim out enjoying the breeze further along.

Imgur does not seem to be working the way it used to? Anyway the above link should show the crop of the text. The other aircraft that I saw with it was SWP which was tucked into the bottom left hand corner of the hangar, so I could only shoot it from above. The text was not clear but was centre aligned rather than left aligned. Take your pick!
