Peter, nice slides.
reguarding cleaning slides, Don't do it. your slides are made up of emulsified gelitin and any cleaning fluid or water will destroy your slides. during the process of producing the slides, firstly the film is sort of a normal based film and during the chemical baths it underwent the image was reversed and a hard shell was placed onto it.
the only thing you can do it to scan into a digital processing program and alter the colours and take all the fuzz out. i have tons of photo's from my navy days and i have had to scan and digitally clean up. it's a pain in the ....... and one slides will take days to clean, then saved to disk.
storage of your slides is another factor, it looks as you have not been attacked by the fungus that loves to eat away negative films. adobe paintshop will do the trick. but be warned it takes time and is you will scream.
