I have 0 years no claims and it cost me £1220 to insure my Citroen C2 1.4HDi for this 1st year!
Not bad when some companies wanted to charge me over £2500!!!! :k:
I think my nearest quote was about £1600.
Interestingly just before posting this an advert for my insurer appeared at the bottom of the screen!

So if the supply of [any] replacement parts is somewhat questionnable and the badge has had a few image problems over the last few years, perhaps that helps me
CB, according to Wikipedia, if you have the PSA XUD-9 1.9litre turbo charged engine, it only produces 88hp compared with 103hp on my 1.4 litre K-series. Even I thought it would be closer than that
The sad fact of the matter is that nowadays it does'nt matter how high tech your vehicle alarm or immobiliser system is. If the scumbags want your car then they WILL get it, regardless of the security features provided by manufacturers and specialist outlets.
Many vehicles, especially of the high performance variety are stolen with the keys on a daily basis. Both either using forced entry into the owners premises or using force whilst in a public.
This goes on regularly(and its not just in Manchester!).
As far as the Peugeot 306 and the Rover 45 debate goes. Both vehicles are fairly average family cars that don't particularly stand out as being desirable or superior from a car theif's point of view. Either one could go.
Insurance premiums these days are indeed a joke. But its bad news if you get stopped without it. New powers ensure that your car can be seized on the spot and later crushed if the legislation is not complied with.
So as they say, "don't have nightmares folks"
I suffer from paranoid amnesia. I can't remember who I don't trust.
What is really needed is some form of regulatory body for the insurance industry, as we do with OFWAT, OFTEL etc.
Many people seem to automatically renew insurance as it falls due, instead of taking the trouble to look around. It really is a pain, keep answering all the same questions over and over.
Having said that, if it saves you a couple of hundred quid, its a couple of hours well spent.

The K-series engines always did seem to have a fair bit of poke. Actually Wikipedia are a little out in their figures, as the Pug 1.9 TD engine actually produces 92 bhp, which compares with (for example) their 1.6i engine producing 90 bhp. The one time I drove a Turbo Diesel sedan version, the most noticeable thing about it was that you forgot you were driving a diesel, it handled that well; I certainly found myself taking tight turns and roundabouts I knew well at 5-10 mph faster than I did in an Escort. Of course now I drive a 2.0l 306, so that's more like 10-15 mph faster, and I have to be veeerrry careful around speed cameras.
High insurance premiums aren't down to just car thieves, just have a look at the amount of traffic collisions on our roads be it minor or major coupled with claims for personal injuries, then we have the uninsured on the roads who inevitably incure further costs to our already over the top premiums.
Incidentally, coming off the subject slightly, did you know that should anyone be injured either as a road user or pedestrian through a non stop RTC or even if the other motorist is caught and has no insurance you can actually claim through the Motor Insurance Bureau which was set up by Insurance Companies to compensate injured parties but the amount paid would be determined under common law - but may be a better bet than the Criminal Injury Board.
They will not compensate for any damage to property though, that will have to come from your own insurance which will unfairly affect your no-claims bonus unless you have it protected!!
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

The 306 handles like a dream. None of this spongy suspension like other small cars have and it goes well when the turbo cuts in. Fuel economy is also very good esp since I did an oil/filter change.
A bird in the hand will probably sh!t on your wrist.
I could of had 3 years no claims as I had the choice of carrying my NCB from my bike over but it was either that with TPF&T or 0 NCB with Fully Comp for the same price. (That was last year)
Doesn't matter now as £550 off what NU want is far better.
