Was it not the major big boys airlines, with the help of the in power goverment at the time put laker out to grass. laker was eating into their profits and the rich could not have the working class going on oversea's holidays.
Sound like this low cost jet thing smells of the same thing. the excuse this time is the enviroment. smells like a pile of bull to me.

David - I hope all the bankrupt legacy airlines in the States dont see that,
Im sure some of them (NWA for sure) would be very glad to see
our little "no frills" airline and our cheap fares go away.

If they can't compete, they don't deserve to be there.
There will always be different service levels for different price ranges.

I left a perfectly good career in the RAF to start at Laker.
Bad timing, huh?

Well i must say with hand on heart, when i get to fly to my home land every three years ( England ). i have my wotsits in a vice, the only carrier to manchester from ottawa shedule is the nations carrier.
this airline is the pits, standard of service is very poor and the food, word's can't describe it. cattle class standard . then when we transfer at heathrow on to BMI. WOW that's service, clean aircraft friendly staff and great food. never any black pudding served though  pity they could not fly shedule to canada. my money would go to them any day over Air can not do anything right.
