They claim it's DX10 but it really isn't. They've got about a 25% chance of it being 100% DX10 capable since the tech specs haven't been released to the software guys much less the hardware people. Last word from the ACES crew was that the DX10 specs were supposed to be issued to the software developers this month with the hardware developers getting the specs either late this month or early next for a planned March Vista/DX10 release, if they make that.

DX10 has been in the Vista Beta since beta 2.

I wouldn't buy a "DX10" card until DX10 is on public release and the second generaton cards are out as Vista will be recieved worse than FSX.

I have the latest Beta Build here of Vista and it's still Crap & it's gone RTM now

Don't waste your money.
Go with reasonably priced stuff & use it for 10 to 12 months then the DX10 stuff will be working properly on Vista SP2.

And although FS9 may only be using one core, the other core can be busy doing other things. Some of the external FS addons perhaps. Overall should be smoother.

PS Rick, how much does the hardware for those setups cost? Not really thinking about upgrading yet but then again haven't priced it.

I always use Genuine Intel Motherboards or ASUS & buy top quality memory that is recommended by the System boar manufacturer.

you can buy everything cheaper but this combo will run happily & Reliably at 3.4 to 3.6 ghz depending on airflow (2.4 ghz is std speed i think).

I realise that it's the price of 2 Gb of DDR2 RAM that's holding me back.

I expect what you are using is stable at the overclocked speeds. but having bought 2Gb of the old stuff (DDR) for £60 recently, that makes me gasp.

And if I build one machine, a certain Mrs H will want one too (probably with 4Gb of RAM).

Yes i bought my second Gig of DDR2 a few weeks ago too.

But i will rebuild this system back into my small "Shuttle" case to use as a safe server connected to a network so i am not too worried about that.

The shop is lending me a single stick of DDR2 for a week or so till i get payed for my Christmas overtime to buy the real stuff.

this is why i use them as they understand the way i work and help with this sort of thing.

I will play about once i get the decent DDR2.

May even go watercooled later as i like the quietness of some of the new
sealed watercooling kits.

My PC will never be switched off apart from card changing or powercuts etc so noise is also paramount. (Bungalow)

Right i am up & running.

Radeon X1950XT is on backorder :sad:

So i am running on an Nvidia EN6200 64mb (asus)

Had to clean install as moving to core2duo gave me a looping boot problem which apparently is common

Bought another SATA 250gb (7200rpm Samsung £50)
to do a clean install on so that i lose nothing i am working on.

you can never have too many big sata drives when you make FS models.
I am now up to 5 of 200gb or above :shock:

& this board will still support another 2 plus a raid array if i win the lottery.

My facy fast memory is also on backorder but should along with my video card be here about tuesday.

so until then i will not be trying to run FSX or FSDS3 as it's too slow graphics wise with this Nvidia "colour typwriter" card installed

Anyone moving to the new Core2duo will be very pleasantly surprised by how quiet the fan is on the new chips.

also the lack of searing heat pumping out of the back of the pc is a welcome effect or lack of.
