It's usually a CR2032 battery - just changed one here because the settings had to be put in each time.
5 minute job, materials £2 from Maplins.
I think I could make a profit on £50 even driving from Nottingham!

Whilst the CMOS battery may indeed be dead that won't make your PC fail the POST I'm afraid. It'll just ask you to re-enter the BIOS settings every time you boot.
Aside from the suggestions posted here check your PSU; I've had a few dodgy ones in the past that have become damaged and will spin up enough to power the basics but the PC won't POST until a new PSU is installed.
