Sri for not posting earlier. Nice looking paint but I'm not sure about that shade of red. Could be my monitor of course

Looks fine to me Dave; of course that could be my monitor!

Steve, the references to working on a T.4 is interesting, do you know something we don't?

I must say the same as Dave, the paint is slightly more lilac than the pic...

But that may be down to my monitor.....

Which pic Dan, the red looks different in both of them? :poke:

My observation was based on Steve's second picture, the overhead shot, where the red looks a good match to the red in the roundels. I understand what you mean about the lilac comment, in one or two of the other shots, but I would suggest that is probably down to 'lighting' conditions and other variables.

Touché Andy

Well especially the second of the screenies compared to the picture from Wyton....

But to me all of the screenshots seem very equal to each other, and a bit lilac instead of "post-box" red. (Or is it Phone-box in England?)

I am aware though that the aircraft in the picture is a bit..er... weathered...

(edit: "phone-boot" [am] edited to the correct phone-box [uk] pointed out by Andy)

I've checked the second shot out with Pixie (a nice little app for checking colour values) and the red on the wings is the same as the roundels; so, unless Steve is using new lilac roundels, I'd put money on it just being an optical illusion. Steve, I'm relying on you to not make me look like more of an idiot than usual!!

"Post-box" red and "phone-BOX" red are actually the same Dan as, until they beloved Maggie split it into two and flogged of the telephones, they were all handled by the GPO.

TBH......not trying to gang up......

And I would have said nothing but since it's been raised :worried:

But I find the red looks too luminous and slightly towards the lilac.

But that is only my opinion or my monitor .

Andy: I'm sure that the roundels and the wings are the same on the model, but compared to the picture of the real thing, I still see them as lilac... with or without a monitor...(erm.... guess not)

Dan, I made the comment about the roundels as I know that they are fine on all his other Canberras; I did some of the Mk 8 repaints on Steve's site (although Steve 'polished' them way beyond my original efforts), from a paintkit that he supplied me, all the colours on the PSDs are spot on. So, assuming that he is still using much the same basic templates as his other paints, the roundels should be accurate.

The two pictures Dave posted illustrate how deceptive colour reproduction can be; even allowing for 'weathering' I would doubt that the red really changed significantly in the time between those two shots - if anything, weathering would, typically, lighten a paint and the shot of the broken up nose section seems to be significantly darker.

In different lighting conditions colours can appear dramatically different; probably the most memorable example, for the slightly older anongst us, was the grey (or "gray", I suppose) that the 74 Squadron Phantom F3s were wearing when they were delivered to the RAF - the main colour was supposed to match the 'barley grey' of the Phantom fleet but actually seemed totally different, I remember photos of the same aircraft in shades all the way from blue to green!

IMHO.

Thats' because it was a different colour, as you say under various lighting it looked all kinds of odd shades, it was alleged to be nearest colour that the U.S Naval Air Rework Facility where the 'J's ' were de-stored, had to the RAF 'Barley' grey.

Sorry Pete, I realised that it was a different colour. But you hit on the main point I was trying to make, that different lighting conditions produced such wildly different pictures.
