I did just have to go and check myself, but the model is correct. (of course! )

Everyone knows that a Super has the rear cargo door on the right, while a Standard has it on the left. :k:
It's different because of the placement of the rear passenger doors.

Both have the forward cargo door on the right.
The big hydraulic loading door is on the left, if fitted. East Af is the only Super with it.

I was talking about the main deck cargo door which is why I said Merchantman not Vanguard

I though that what Dan was asking about....where the cargo door was rather than baggage doors which is what the smaller ones are. :think:

That question was far too easy for this time of night and trust me not to look at a K3 or K4

However.. we ALL now know that a Super has the rear cargo door on the RH side and a Standard has the rear cargo door on the LH side. We ALL knew that anyway didn't we??

Sri Garry. I've always considered baggage as something you carry onboard (as if I'd know) and cargo is what goes down below. Perhaps if we all call them fwd and rear freight holds (with matching doors).. we'll know where we stand

Sorry as Garry I thought that was what the Q was about and I also look at the lower fuselage access as bagage compartment/boot, the large upward opening from passenger floor level front left I see as the cargo door.

Where are the cargo doors on the Viscount.. on the RH side too?? Makes sense to have them there when you think about it (on the opposite side to the pax doors) so that loading/unloading of pax and cargo can take place at the same time. Something I'd never thought about before :think:

Quite right DB, it's nearly always passengers left, cargo/baggage right.
I was thinking the Super VC10 was the oddity, but that's normal.
The Standard only has the rear cargo door on the left because there's no room for it anywhere else. The rear service door takes the right hand space.

Not sure what the excuse was on the Trident 1 & 2 though. :think:

I remember reading the original design had a similar weird extended fairing (?) on the left side, with a hinged section for the cargo door!
The idea didn't make it to production and they just chopped it short of the door instead.

Not too bad there DM as the idea is to keep the loading away from the pax which usually means the opposite side.

The wing forms a nice little barrier to that.
