AS Dave says check the heaters.

As to handling it is very easy and you can hand fly it on a curving approach by almost staring at the runway and thinking it down........even if that means lining up as you cross the threshold it will behave properly..... at the right speeds.

So the hard to fly was a mystery to me too :think:

I have been flying the 748 and having great fun recently so easy to fly. I also had a problem with the heaters early on. With the OAT below -20 i hadn' t put the fuel heaters on and i was more than a little worried when both engines stopped. :shock:

That sound a bit like what geevers1 was describing with the engines stopping at 11,000 feet.

Quite a common catch out that...........been known to happen in real life as well :redface:

Certainly a joy to fly and the 780 as well which behaves like a 748 on steroids

Hi Seb,

You could always look at the CBFS VA routes and use a combination of aircraft. You have the DC-3, 748, Argosy, Dove, Rapide etc etc all at your disposal. You can pretty much get around anywhere in the UK using the fleet. If you want to try it just let me know what Type Ratings you want.

Well if you have the time on your hands - for me it has to be the Chippie. What better way get about whilst still being able to actually see something at the same time.

Also on the 748 - the fuel trimmers are important for avoiding over-temperature conditions

I have used the 748 on many a domestic route. In comparison to modern ATR and Dash 8 aircraft, it is more of a joy to fly.

I love the HS748 and agree with all what has been said above.

If you do choose the Dove, which is preferable for smaller/grass fields - can recommend the replacement sound set available on Classic British Files - definitely adds a dimension!

I'd say Ricks Chippy is probably your best bet, or the Dove if you can live without the VC.
Of course you could use the Rapide, but I'm biased

Again, thanks for all the suggestions. I hope what I said about the HS748 doesn't make you think that I hate it, or think it's in anyway a bad model. It's a fabulous a/c, fabulous model with great liveries etc, I just find it *personally* harder to fly than most of the other a/c's I've tried. But with practice I'm sure I'll get used to it.

By the way, the tip about the engine heating is probably the cause of my engine problems: the same thing once happened to me whilst on approach to Dublin on Vatsim. Someone there shouted "is your heating on" whilst I was floundering about ..
