Classic British Flight Sim

For anyone who already has closed Alpha/Beta access... can you tell me if the wheel fairings on the default Cessna 172 can be toggled on/off please?

Orbx sale for MS2020 starts on release date until 31st August.

They even have London City Pack with hundreds of iconic London buildings and landmarks in one pack. Obviously London is not fully modelled!

Cheers for the heads up Nigel. I'm going to hold out for the UK2000 stuff as I like to support Gary and he covers more of the UK than Orbx, but this looks like a good deal for those who fly in London regularly.

Nigel, London is fully modeled although not necessarily with the correct building in place. There are discrepancies where 2d Satellite data is not accurately converted into 3d by the AI. Some objects are not understood as a building. Theres no Gerkin, no Nelson's column. Admiralty Arch is spot on, but there's no arch through it. The Millennium wheel is lines on the river bank. Unless hand created, things will be like that. Scenery like streets of houses are easily understood by the AI and generally depicted well. Most people can find their house. Where it's not so good is say over farmland where a building, probably a cow shed, will be depicted as a generic 4 story office block. It will have the plan data correct, but create a building that sticks out in the wrong environment. Don't get me wrong it's bloody good and as the AI gets refined will only get better.

Very many thanks Dale, cleared that up for me. So Iwould guess that it is very likely that Lincoln Cathedral and castle may not exist yet!!

As a late thought the Bomber Museum on Canwick Hill will not be shown.

So bespoke buildings aren’t handled by AI. They’ll need to be individually modelled and added manually by a third party developer. If you think of all the towns on the planet, all with their locally significant buildings, there’s no way they could all be created and added.

Quite possibly Nigel. Must admit I was a little disappointed that Chester cathedral is just shown as blue 2d Cross (colour of the roof) whereas the rest of the city is depicted quite well. As Ben said, the housing estates are even the correct brick colour

It is worth noting that this is a dynamic (developing) situation, not a static one (like we were used to with all previous sims)...

Where dense stereo coverage is already available photogrammetry has been used to model each structure individually. At present such coverage is [relatively] limited, but it will only increase with time. The program of updates from MS means these new areas will be incorporated into the sim.

It could be argued that given enough time the cost-benefit of buying bespoke addons solely for landmarks will be wiped out by such updates...
