Thought I would see if there were any good pics to help you with the rear fuselage and came across this
one, just in case you haven't seen it yet, it happens to be the exact aircraft your modeling, hope it helps.

Well done so far!
With regard to the guns and this is just when you get round to polishing up the final release, in one of my books there is a b/w photo of a Sea Hawk firing its guns and there appears to smoke just in front of the cannon barrel. I ahve never seen the guns fired in real life but Peter will probably have seen similar armament discharge and may be able to advise on best effect.

The b/w photo referred to above is on page 40 of "Sea Hawk" - from the Cockpit No.3 by Michael J Doust.

yes, it is indeed WV797, but that shot is a profile shot, and I am more concerned with the narrowness of the fuselage from a cross-section perspective. I have some good ref shots I can use to (try to) fix it, then I think she'll be much more ship shape.

Hobby, regarding the guns, I doubt I will mess with the effects on that barring perhaps tinkering with the 'fireball' bitmap to make it more elongated. The only custom effect I plan to build is the fabled cartridge startup - that should be fun. It is going to be fun painting these up for sure- I've seen some filthy gun ports after firing which I am sure Peter can attest to.

More great work Steve thanks, cant wait. Its the Culdrose air day on 30/07/08 so am looking forward to seeing the RNHF seahawk in the air again. My brother is at Culdrose on a merlin flight so I will see if I can get some closeup photos of her for you if she puts down in the hanger or refuels...
Helston has a few 'Chavs' but I think so does everywhere in The UK these days....I still remenise about evenings in Tuggs club at the back of the beehive especially in the early 80s! I know a couple of ex Seahawk pilots but sadly have moved away, neither were flightsimmers either. The only info I have is that if the flaps are retracted too early after takeoff, without ensuring that airspeed is up, she sinks rapidly...causing a few extra heartbeats.
You will all be pleased to know that 'Jack' speak is very much alive in the FAA today amongst the chockheads, greenies, pinkies and grubbers...

thanks for the prospect of some close-up shots - the RNHF offered the same but I doubt I'll be over that side of the Atlantic this year :-( Therefore I reckon your brother is my best bet. I know they've upgraded the cockpit somewhat with modern avionics, but also a rear view mirror as well. I wonder why the original didn't have one? Nice to know that flap data, - we'll see if my FDE bloke can work that 'feature' in.

All in all, I'm glad to the approval of another Cornishman - all I ask for are some nice screenies of her at Culdrose after roll-out.

I've re-worked the rear fuselage spine and am now much happier. I have also made an FB.5 from the Hurn-based FRU, with rudimentary searchlight pod (yet to be powered up), and she does look good in that sexy black paint. Also finished the Suez stripe texturing details on WV797.
