Hey Joe - the Captain involved in that incident, Tim Lancaster, came over to 747s for the last few years of his career and I flew with him a couple of times. A really nice guy to have a beer with, but he won't be able to tell his grandkids the story. He lost consciousness immediately and didn't wake up until he was in hospital so can't remember anything about it.

I wish he'd told me that before I bought him a beer :-(

The first AAIB recommendation has been issued, and BAA have implemented the recommendation already at Heathrow

I remember that one Garry - that was nearly 20 years ago now - where does time go to ?. Cpt Glen Stewart took the rap for that one and tragically took his own life shortly after. Hadn't BA granted a dispensation for the flight to continue onto EGLL for a CAT III approach when they knew the F/O wasn't Cat III current ? Mind you,I seem to remember that was the least of the F/O's worries because he'd had the sh!ts for most of the flight. The poor guy was still busy trying to control his backside by time the Sperry autopilots started acting up on the approach and they nealy took the roof off the Heathrow Penta hotel.
