Hello all

This is to let you all know that my father Ralph (auster) who started this intriguing post, passed away on Friday 16th April aged 80. He had been diagnosed only 3 weeks before with pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver, so this was all very sudden and unexpected. We thought he would go on to 100.

I know he got a lot of enjoyment from this forum. He is sadly missed.

Nigel

Sincerest condolences to you and your family, Nigel. Ralph documented so much of his aviation career here for us, and it was a hugely enjoyable read. All the very best to you at this sad time.

Dear Nigel,

So sorry to read this, I am also deeply saddened by your news.

Your Father and myself corresponded a lot over the last couple of years as I have done a lot of flying in his Auster AOP9. It was his love for this aeroplane that brought him here as a Japanese gentleman had released an early example and much work was required to bring up to a presentable standard in the way that it flew. Recently Ralph assisted myself, Dave Molyneaux and all at another website in producing an extremely accurate AOP9, which is in fact his aeroplane, as the panel is from G-BDFH. He was over the moon when it was completed and his own simulator version also wore the colours of his old mount.

My thought and condolences to you all at this difficult time.

Yours sincerely,

Martin Pengelly

Nigel,

Very sad to hear of Ralph's passing...I enjoyed his writing very much...He had a way of telling of his experiences that would enthuse any pilot and I know that all here were gripped by his wonderful stories. We will miss him.

Best Regards,

Peter McLeland.
