Well, it's not just Scotland, Nigel. It's Inverness - which is way beyond Scotland!. And we're not starting from anywhere within the known Universe so we have to get a sprinter to Bath, then the HST to Paddington, Tube to Kings X then the East Coast mainline to Edinburgh and from then on I'm told it's single track line up into the Highlands with passing loops. It still sounds better than doing it with you in reverse in your car
Still - my mate loves all that as he's an enthusiast so that was the whole point. I would have gone along for the ride if it wasn't going to hurt but now I'll take the easy(jet) option.

Flamin' heck Ian, think you have made the right decision by flying!! With all that travelling you would need to be on steroids!!
Inverness? From what I have heard it is lovely up there so hopefully expect you to post some photographs if you get the time.
Enjoy your break Ian.
Regards
Nigel.

A First Class rail return from Wiltshire to Inverness is well over £600 - mine was going to cost me £420 with a Senior Railcard discount. The cheapest return squeazyprice from here to INV including train, flight and bus connections via BRS is about £100
So the rail option was for the travel experience, nothing to do with efficiency!
So I'll take the high road and my mate'll take the low road and I'll be in Scotland afore him. Where did I hear that before?

You'd like to think so, Dave. But post-nationalised railways don't look like post-nationalised British Airways - as far as retired staff concessions, anyway! The old British Railways rail-tappers and shunters are OK but those of us who only managed 11 years with a franchise like First Group are chucked out on the heap with barely a concession to rub together. The cruelty and the rejection is hard to bear
Medication News! I saw my nice doctor yesterday for a review of my morphine dosage. He's increased my basic time-release dose by three times so I shouldn't need to top-up very often! He even threw in an extra bottle of morphine to take to Scotland with me. Well, as they say - I shouldn't feel any pain!
I might not remember the trip ...

Ian, you could always eke out the medication with "malt" - I fund it a better pain killer than most.
Enjoy your holiday, it's a great part of the land.
