Bought it - loaded it - flew it - wasnt impressed - unloaded it - It makes great coffee coasters - sorry if that seems a terrible thought and throwing money away - But the cost of FSX wouldnt even cover a good meal and a show in KLAS.

ha ha!
You know I feel really bad. I wanted to like it, I really did. But I just didn't  It just looked a bit 'cartoony'. maybe I'd got so used to my highly customised FS9 that will replace it for a good long while.
Does anyone remember if the swap from 2002 to 2004 was like this... I mean were so many people of the same attitude then?

2204 was really an improvement of 2002 and there was quite a bit of compatibility and 2004 versions were made and worked well.
FS.X is something new and not really compatible as it is a quantum leap......for many too far.
There are some people though that did prefer to stick with 2002 as there were certain details they liked better.

I'm not that far ahead as you Garry (2204)
But I like FSX.
It gives me the same FPS as FS9 does, so no difference on that account.
The standard textures are better in FSX than in FS9.
There is already patches out to eliminate the desert problems.
Many FS9 sceneries works in FSX (eg. Jim Vile's KaiTak98)
In my opinion one thing that really makes a change is a better detailed mesh. And there are many available already as well.
Even FSX-standard EKCH looks better than standard FS9-EKCH.
The only thing I would really like is a
real FSX-version of the VC10 ....

Peter : I don't (as yet) have FSX and I note your comment about "games" which I have seen elsewhere. Please can you tell me how FSX differs from the earlier versions. Sorry to trouble you

Well tried it didnt like and sold it, found the whole episode frustrating p*ssing about with sliders settings, tweaks etc etc just to get the bleeder to run!!
Nope FS9 was never in danger of being removed. I loved the textures for Europe in FSX all desert.... er do the Yanks know something about global warming I don't

Ok you can get patches by freeware designers nice but if I bought a new Ford I would not expect to have to pop the bonnet and tweak the engine then get a free respray by a man who runs a garage on his own with only the help of his dog who used to be called "blackie" but in these times of correctness is now renamed "without milk" :k:
The huge patch done by MS I find laughable they stated the usual tripe "real as it gets" then realise they dropped the ball big time and have to revamp the bloody thing already!!
ah well I think reading this thread there are about 10 to 1 in favour of FS9 and those with FSX will defend it as we don't like owning up to buying a lemon
Garry dont bother with FSX get your self a free demo download from MS and you can check your stuff that way without the tears when FSX sends everything crashing back to desktop

Hi Tony
I have the free demo
In tower view the default 747 comes charging down the runway incomplete
As it gets nearer the doors and missing wing parts get added one by one.
The reason why I might buy it is because the patch might make thing display better.
The demo just doesn't and I can't gauge results on a demo that may be well out of date

All standard FSX stuff
I know they updated the demo a while back are you using the original demo from when it was first put out?
