Hi Nigel
HJG do not support FS.X
That will be upgraded FS.9 textures as Dave mentions
They have not even basic patched their models like some here.
So pure 9 for sure

Hi Dave & Garry
Thanks for that as at first glance it appeared to have that FSX quality about it.
Regards Nigel.

Hi Nigel
I think you'll find that's why Tony is so keen to stick with FS.9 as it give him everything he wants wiothout the hassle.

I will chat with the designer to see if the retract bit is a mistake. Re the textures on the screenshot, it is good old FS9 :yipeee: long may it live..well on my pc anyway ;-) I did use freeware water textures. Ok now the sad news....HJG are in the process of looking at editing all their FDE's ( well 707 versions first) for FSX ( keeping FS9 of course) the new panels I think will be suitable for FSX as well but I will let you know more when I do, on that. See told you it was bad news...there will be no chance of getting you rotten FSX lot back to FS9 now
Garry will be contacting you Saturday if thats ok with you.

Ha ha, Tony, I myself am very close to say a sad but good farewell to FS9. It has really given me many pleasures, but FSX both runs better, and looks better on my system. (and that without costly or free add-ons)
I'm missing the good old HJG designs, but good shall come to he who waits, it appears ;-)
I would love to drive some of your 707's and DC-8's down FSX-lane....
I just miss some final bits to completely leave FS9 for FSX.

Dan I fully understand your position on FSX and if it works well for you thats all that matters. I have never tested any of the HJG stuff in FSX I guess a few FDE and CFG tweaks would make them work.. I could be really conscientious and download the FSX demo and try them out.... sadly I misplaced my keeness and dedication to duty and for the life of me I can't recall where I left it... thats the trouble when you don't bother using something for a long time ;-)

Coming into this thread rather late, but the RAF E-3D doesn't have a "retractable" refuelling probe, all of them are fixed out, whereas the E-3F operated by the French Air Force has either a retractable probe or has some kind of mod done to it (it's detachable?) I'm not really sure but you can see the type of probe that has been modelled incorrectly on the E-3D on this picture of 36-CB on airliners.net:

thanks for the info.I would suggest that if your flying the RAF version in FS when it arrives, do not use wingfold and it will stay pointing out like a good un...an easy fix if not completely the perfect fit.. it would save doing various different models for different users i.e. Frenchies etc. I do like an easy solution...

Technically you'd have to do different models for different nationalities anyway I'm afraid.
The older versions of the E-3F had the same, standard fuselage minus lumps and bumps like the RAF E-3D, however the past five or six years have seen the E-3F aquire the odd, stumpy refuelling probe (or lack of one thereof) and lots of lumps and bumps (comparable to those on the USAF and NATO E-3A). The other major external difference to my eyes is that even the modern E-3F lacks the wingtip pods of the E-3D.
So many variations, it's so confusing at times. But what you've actually got is an RAF E-3D with a French Air Force E-3F refuelling probe stumpy-type-thing attached. (I'm still not sure whether it's completely retractable or whether they can just physically detach it from the aircraft if it isn't needed).
The air forces of the world are so inconsiderate, why they all just can't pick one and stick with it I'll never know, it would make modellers jobs much easier! :gigle:
