I don't think hobby was commenting on this particular aircraft/paint combination.. more the fact that his favourite paint for this type was the older duck egg/sky rather than the current dark sea/grey - white.. unless I've lost the plot (not unusual) :)

Apologies if I got that wrong chaps or caused any offence- I was only trying to clarify reference to 'sky' on the a/c referred to in the photos. Not trying to pull Hobby down or anything on his Sea Hawk knowledge, which is far more extensive than mine, rest assured :) :)

Dave B is quite right. I do prefer the original dark sea grey/'sky' scheme and the way it was applied to the
Mk1s - 6s.

The aircraft at Duxford on Sunday is painted in the later scheme used during 1960. I think that the straight demarcation line from the air intake to the nose combined with the straight demarcation from 'pen nib' fairing to the arrestor hook fuselage mounting point detracts somewhat from the gracefulness of the aircraft.
On the other hand the all grey FRU, all red aerobatic team and all black Sea Hawks retain their gracefulness INHO!
