that runway could be used for take offs using a reduced length as the 777 seems close to the end.
But just imagine the poor guys/gals working around the 777 having a burnt kerosene gale blowing every few minutes!
And that BBC video shows where the tracks in the grass begin and that it literally just got over the A30. You'll be able to tell people who were driving past at that moment by the look of amazement on their faces. A bit like those shots of airliners landing over the beach.
At lunchtime a taxi driver reported on the BBC news that the aircraft involved almost took the roof off his vehicle and just cleared the boundary hedge before arriving on the grass well short of the runway.
All the more shocking being a large modern airliner, one of the best airlines in the world ( safety-wise at least ) and right at our premier international airport too. What a truly terrifying experience it must have been for them. Thank goodness there were no more than minor injuries.
Quite a lot of the stuff bound for Heathrow is flying over me this evening bound for EGCC. Glad to hear all souls are safe and sounds like the crew did a remarkable job bringing her in with no power! :o
