Could it be a "G" meter of some sort?

Ben - seeing as the numbers are repeated left to right and right to left I would say you were spot on

Leif

But it doesn't seem to be attached just laid on the glare shield

Hi Leif,

Yep it does look strange. Also the cluster of Guages arround the RPM gauge look as if they are facing out of the cockpit. May just be the camera angle, but looks a bit funny to me.

I've got the Aeroplane Monthly mentioned above and it doesn't have any cockpit photos in it, sadly. If you email the RAF Museum and ask them nicely, they will send you a photocopy of the panel illustration from the relevant air publication (well, they did for me with the Welkin  ). They are pretty short staffed so expect to wait about four weeks for a reply.

Best wishes

If you go here http://www.flight-manuals-on-cd.com/Scimitar.html you can buy the Attacker (and Scimitar) pilot's notes on CD. Should have a picture of the instrument panel in there with a key, as well as other useful information.

From Flight 15th May, 1947 (great five page article):

I posted some time ago that most of the back issues of Flight are now available for viewing at the Flight International website but got no response. :brick:

They even have a search facility. :prayer:

Best wishes
