I suppose I'm used to the A/C wondering a little - although as I say using trim only is totally fine - perhaps under XP the Datum adjust acts differently? I never use it to dial in huge climb rates above about 500' - the main thing is that, *now*, irrespective of me dialling + or - 100' the aircraft will always begin a descent. The only way it will climb using Datum is by dialling about 1800' - when the trim will just go crazy.

Historically, I used Datum when in the cruise at say FL370. After setting ALT LOCK, I would dial in +100' - which gave a small climb rate to help fuel burn and maintain speed. Similarly, I'd use about -400 for a long descent toward destination. Now, I cannot get the Aircraft to climb this way at all.

Try this for a start:

In your Aircraft.cfg in the [autopilot] section, change:

default_vertical_speed=1500.000000

to:

default_vertical_speed=1.000000

and see if it changes anything?

PS forgive the Darth Wader thing ;-)

You should also be able to see the contents of the CAB file by either using the inbuilt zip functionality in XP or using winzip.

You should find at least following files dated 15APR08:

AUTOPILOT.XML
AUTOPILOT_COUNTER.XML
AT.XML
ICON_SWAP_AUTOPILOT.XML
C1K_AT_LIGHT.XML
PROCESSING.XML
AT_LIGHT.XML

Where the two most important are AUTOPILOT_COUNTER.XML and PROCESSING.XML

If they aren't there, you have a wrong CAB file!

If they are present we'll take it from there.....

Btw. this is from DM's site:
15Apr08
Fixed another minor problem when used in FSX - DATUM ADJUST wasn't working when ALT hold selected.
Also altered the auto throttle fix, so that the modern auto pilot option will once again allow speeds over 180kt in FS9
Furthermore to this: Davids adjustments to the Datum Adjust was specifically towards the problem in FSX, but if that code somehow messed the FS9 way of doing things, You just might be better off with the version just prior to the latest.....

And if you don't have those, I can help you out with that too ;-)

HI Dan

All files are present dated 15/04/2008 as you mention.

I altered the .cfg file. The most noticeable difference is a more precise use of the trim - EG I climbed to 5000AGL, trimmed back and it 'topped out' nicely without any 'overclimb'.

However, Datum still only holds altitude (0') and any positive input initiates a descent. Negative input (IE intentional descent) works as normal.

**EDIT - I have the older files on one of the old HDDs - although I'm not sure if it would be better to install the whole package rather than mix files?

Just ran through the XML-code and it actually says (basically) that it should either increment or decrement depending on which side you click on, so nothing wrong there.

How about your general settings in the Sim? have you altered them lately?

In this case it shouldn't matter, you just have to replace the cab file ...

HI Dan

I've not altered any settings other than adding in 'realistic' for handling (the PC is only a week old) - I don't think the settings on the old machine were that different.

The incrementing works correctly in that the pop up shows [VS 100 ft/min] for positive selection or add a - to the front for the reverse.

Think I'll pull over the older cabs and see if that makes any difference.

Try knocking off the realistic

It's one thing you've changed

Cheers Guys ( Big thanks Dan :drinkers: ) - I'm going to pull the old cabfiles and try them first, then see how it goes.
