OK chaps, have to admit that I have not read it!! :$

Looks like it will be tomorrow then, an afternoon with Manuel!! :lol:

Ummm,eeeer, some probably do Dave but others.......???

Hey, I am a member of the short attention span school as well, but the VC10 manual is really not that long and it is very clearly written. In fact you probably can get by just reading Ben's extract in the post above.

Nigel! I can't believe you didn't know DM's VC10 has autoland! You naughty boy, you haven't been doing your homework! I use it quite a lot - it reminds me of what a landing should look like! It's very easy to use. As Ben's excerpt from the manual says:

Do a normal instrument approach and on the auto-navigation rotary switch you get to the bit where you turn it to GS Auto to intercept the glide slope
Wait until the aircraft has settled and you have dialled the VaT speed into the autothrottle and selected full flaps, then turn the switch fully clockwise to 'flare' sit back with your arms folded and watch the magic!

At the threshold the throttles will cut automatically and the AP will disengage at the same time, the nose flares and the wheels pitter-patter down the centreline :lol:

But then it's down to you. The spoilers have to be deployed manually, as does reverse thrust, then you'll have to apply the brakes manually from 80 knots as usual.

And in future - pay attention or we won't let you sit at the back of the class with your mates :lol:

That might be a bit too much for our Nigel. Fly the Rapide instead mate. Spoilers are built-in and deployed all the time.. well, that's what it feels like! :lol:

I haven't used East Midlands, Nigel. But check that as well as ILS, it has an active glideslope and DME - just to make sure. Or better still, try somewhere BIGGER! Somewhere more ... Heathrowish ... and stop messing about!

I've landed it in Guernsey CI with the autoland no problem :lol: :lol:

Well just...have to stamp on the brakes a bit :lol: :lol:
