Thanks for posting Peter, that was great to watch that scene again.

The best part a in a rather comedy BBC bad sound editing way is where when the Flight of 3 Seakings flying in at the start are over dubbed with the sound of a totally different helicopter.....then again I am a total geek on that kinda thing..

...ok...I'll get my coat!

Three cheers for that poor bloke on his final trap - I felt quite knackered just watching him bolt each time. I mean, you'd think it was hard trapping, wouldn't you? ;-) Brilliant video - thanks for sharing, Peter.

Magic, thanks for posting that one up. For an Xmas treat to myself I'm going to get out my dvd copy of Sailor and watch
it yet again, maybe with a few tots.
Every time I see clips like this it brings back so many memories, thanks again for posting.

Remember that chap dressed in a Two and a Half's shirt in the Mess? He had had a few tots too by the look of things! ;-)

Thanks for posting that Peter, enjoyed every second of it.

Felt a bit sorry for that Last Bucc Pilot, but they seemed sympathetic about it. I have to admit when he finally got it I cheered, luckily I was the only one in the room at the time!

Gotta tell ya..........it was something to see in real life. My first night on board and out at sea, I went up to the "goofers deck" and watched my
first bucc and phantom night launch........you could feel the power from that high in the island. Jeeeeez I'm an old git lol, but a proud one to have
served on this the last of the mighty in the RN.

I recall the powers in the towers forbidding we airframes and engines maintainers on 892 from doing night time full afterburner runs on the tie back point in FLY 5 (at the front of the angle because) it spoiled the navigators night vision.

Something else the stopped us doing was sitting in a F4k in Fly4 (port aft) whilst recoveries were in progress. We were so pushed to keep aircraft serviceable in the first couple of years on board that every minute was precious so if a full power check had to be done then time could be saved by starting up, doing any other necessaries such as fuel transfer checks then pulling back to idle on both until the recoveries were complete.

Had quite a few hairy moments whilst on there often because of the dreaded re-heat banger. This was caused by a sticky boundary layer control sensing unit allowing an overfuel with the afterburner not lighting up immediately. A large vapour cloud of AVCAT fumes built up around the rear of the aircraft, warning given in the cockpit by hesitation of the nozzle position indicator, and then suddenly ignition would occur with an almighty whoomph which shook one up in the cockpit. This most often happened when testing rapid re-heat in half flap.

I will refran from relating other incidents for fear of being a boring old fart and off topic.
