Wrong!

It was only the marriage of the 707 and the Conways that didn't work for me, Brian
Boeing's philosophy really came good when aircraft got big and I reckon the build quality of those jumblies have saved my sorry skin on more than one occasion. I can sleep soundly in a 747-400 but in anything else I stay wide-eyed with white-knuckled fear

I think the 436 was a political and commercial invention - a triumph of compromise over common sense  But the basic design was able to evolve as circumstances changed. Whereas the VC10 was a perfect flying machine within a very limited commercial niche and, as you would expect from something so specialised, no room for compromise. And quite right too. British aircraft design was ruled by the heart, American design by the head.

Ian ;-)

Thanks for posting Eddie :tab: Was it BA that put those lovely aircraft into the cull?

BA wouldn't support them anymore - their apprentices used to maintain them. Whether Cosford decided to re-brand as the RAF museum because of that, or whether that was happening anyway, I'm not sure.
