I wonder if I can claim a deduction on my taxes for the number of days the Federal Goverment has not been opened for bitness
because of the snow.

I don't need to watch the weather channel, I just look out the window! Actually I have the wall to wall coverage on local TV on in the background.

We have another 6 or so inches and it is still snowing. Actually it is very hard to tell how much we have since we have wind gusts up to 40 mph. Everything is drifting and all my shovelling of driveway and path will need to be done again. We may reach the record for the most snow in a winter since records have been kept. Right now we are in third place. Needless to say KIAD, KDCA and KBWI are all closed.

I am just thankful I still have power, no idea how long that will last; there are still thousands without power from the weekend storm. With blizzard conditions, the road are impassable and some jurisdictions have pulled their plows off the streets because it is too hazardous for the crews.

The Federal government may be shut down for days! I really haven't noticed much difference though! ;)

I think Parliamentary democracies are more fun. Congress is a bit tedious and we don't have the always entertaining Prime Minister's question time.

Well, we did it! We broke the record for the most snow in one winter at 55 inches (KDCA) Dullus (KIAD) has accumulated 72 inches this winter. The snow is winding down but the winds are still howling. Good time for a nice cup of Rosie Lee!

We're not too far behind you Nigel - KDSM has recorded 53" so far this year, and the state climatologist isn't ruling out breaking surpassing the record of 72" set 100 years ago. Heard this morning on NPR that this may be the new norm for the next couple of years, so I may have to break down and buy a snow thrower.

Stay warm!

I only just got out of Philly on Tuesday night. We had 2 inches on the wings after just over 2 hours of snow fall when we pushed back. Airport was open, then closed, then open, then closed. Took us 1.5 hours to get onto a de-icing pad and 45 mins to be de-iced and then anti-iced. Runway opened just as that finished so back into Heathrow yesterday 3 hours late in the end. So no complaints from me - but I very nearly got to stay and enjoy it with you ! Hope it all melts soon !

Cheers

Rich

Chris - I certainly contemplated getting a snow blower after our 19 inches in December. Genius that I am, I thought nah, that won't happen again since we have only had 15 inches in the past THREE winters. :wall: Records have been kept since the civil war and we broke the old one set in 1899. Funny, I hear Vancouver needs snow for the olympics so I am thinking of going into business shipping snow to Canada.

Rich, I am glad you made it back to Heathrow ok. Philly got plastered like we did. Actually as far as the melt, everyone hopes it does not melt too fast as then we will have a major flooding problem. Today it only reached 34F so at least Mother Nature is co-operating wih that.
