Hi Paul :hello:

No.. I didn't watch the video. My intention was to retire gracefully into obscurity and ignorance
Less likely to be said,
if instead she'd used an A10 Warthog, or a SkyVan.
To be honest, I can't see the distinction. Obviously, the 2 subjects chosen could be considered to have much more fluid lines and are more pleasing to the eye but.. some blokes marry fat birds and others don't. Does that make the fat bird any less pretty/desirable/functional than a thin bird?? Certainly not to the bloke who's married her :) In an engineering sense, all 4 aircraft do (or did) what they do within the parameters of their remit. They look the way they look because of what they do and what they're expected to do. Had she used an A10 and a Skyvan.. I'd have seen an A10 and a Skyvan and neither would have been more or less pieces of 'art'.

I guess, at the end of the day.. my conception (or preconception) of art can be considered 'traditional'. While I see things that I could use (or misuse) the term 'a work of art', most if not all of these are pretty, call them gorgeous, aesthetically pleasing in some way or other but what they're not are works of art in the traditional sense.. whatever that is. I often stand and look at DeltaGolf and wonder at her subtle curves. No one who's not seen a Concorde at close quarters can fully appreciate just what a beautiful, wonderful piece of engineering excellence it is. Is it beautiful.. yes, certainly. Is it a prime example, one of the finest examples of engineering excellence either born out of operational necessity or otherwise.. yes, most certainly. Is it a work of art...?? Well, it is/was never a piece of art but, given the common use of the term 'a work of art'.. the end result would suggest it was but.. is it any more a 'work of art' than the aforementioned A10 or Skyvan?? It's certainly prettier as far as I'm concerned but then again, I don't go for fat, ugly birds

sorry I blasted out like I did ... I guess I let the frustration of having worked on them get the better of me.
, it wasn't what you were on about, so :worried:

What is art? Visual art to me is anything that pleases the eye, stimulates the mind or provokes an emotional response. Could be a painting, building, sculpture or something more ambiguous. I suppose that is an ambiguous answer, but then there is beauty in ambiguity! Certainly that is true in musical arts and I think it is true of all of the arts. Why is the Mona Lisa so captivating? That smile - so ambiguous!

I didn't take offence mate.

I'm enjoying reading the different views. In fact it's helped change my opinion. Whilst the Jaguar still makes me feel uncomfortable, I think that it's meant to. I now think by the reaction generated here the artist has achieved what she wanted and it qualifies as art.

Dave,
I remember reading about a Ducati 916 being displayed in a gallery as a "work of art" but sadly not a Triumph Daytona although it's a gorgeous bike.

Did I get the right model?

Hi Jon..

No mate.. that's a bit earlier. See mine here.. http://www.cbfsim.org/cbfsim/cbfsBB/vie ... =8&t=18378 .. a better pic of the back wheel is further down the page though none of these show it's real beauty. I only meant the back wheel.. not the whole bike  This is the last 955i Daytona ('06 model). After this, they bored the 600 Daytona out to 675 and it lives on. The 955i was bored out to 1050 and lives on in the Speed Triple/Sprint ST and soon.. the Sprint GT ;)

I think if I hire a room at the Tate and suspend a dog turd from the ceiling.. I'll get the reaction I was intending too but will IT qualify as art?? *-) :dunno: :worried: :shhh: :-# :wasntme:

If I may interject...

Dave
The only crap I'd even consider to be an art form comes from chickens. They leave just the right amount
of white on top as a garnishment.
