True, the RN at least was still using port and stbd for formation flying until about 5 years ago when they revised the JSP and gave it a new number and everything became left and right. Having said that I can get left and right confused just as easily as port and stbd....

That's great footage and shows the accident in a slightly different light. An interesting comment by one of the guys on that forum pointing out the difference in the thrust nozzles confirming what had already been said here that one of the engines was not giving the right thrust.. hence the push over to the right. He still left with barely enough time for the chute to deploy.. this shown in the footage. No wonder he went to hospital!!

If you look at the picture on the right when you go to the first link in the thread, it's been pointed out on WiX that this tells you the whole story. You will notice a jet of flame coming from the #1/left/port engine. This is a "tell-tale" that the engine is operating as it is ingesting and exhausting the fire that is already occurring ahead of it. If you look at the right engine, noting is coming out. This confirms that (at impact) the right engine was at a state where it was producing no meaningful thrust and thus was the origin of the problem. The question to be answered is why it failed and when, and why the pilot was unable to "fly out" of the maneuver as he should have been able to.

One thing that always amazes me is the responses to reports like that.. which is one very good reason why I never read them You can read the rubbish under that Sky report and would not be excused for thinking you'd somehow slipped to another story.
