If the re-engining had gone ahead it would have carried a heavier payload further and 60 knots faster whilst burning less fuel. BAe put every obstacle in its way coz it would have blown holes in 146 sales.
So true.
Imagine it with the Tay engine reserved for the F100...
BTW here's the complete production list:

Bob,
A bit late onto this one, but I might be able to put you in touch with an ex-BAe test flight engineer on the 146/RJ. Failing that, I've got quite a lot of manuals including a flight manual from Jersey European (not sure which series). Only problem is I am not sure whether my stuff is here or in the UK!! I don't own a scanner but I if you ask questions, I can look up information.

Thanks for the offer Toby but, as you say, we are past the point where they would be much help. However, there are two things I can't find out that your books might help with :
1. What is the diameter of the nose wheel (with tyre) ?
2. What is the fuel burn, gals per hour or lbs per hour, at cruise speed at cruise altitude of the Textron Lycoming ALF 502R-5 Turbofans.

Hello Bob -
A couple of years back (pre-Google, anyway), in another forum, a developer asked for the same info in regard to the Airbus A380.
I took a punt on it using Michelins, and searched the web for a catalogue. I was delighted to find not only that there was one, but that it had all the tyre sizes used on all the Airbuses.
Don't know what brand BAe used - Goodyear maybe?
Dammit - just tried searching that forum for the link and eventually got 'Service Unavailable'.
Will try again later.

Not sure if this helps but Goodyear data shows
BAe 146 Main tires 39x13 (higher speed rating) or 42x15 (lower speed rating)
Auxillary tire (I assume nose wheel) 24x7.7 (higher speed rating) or 8.5-10 (lower speed rating)
data from
http://www.goodyearaviation.com/resourc ... tabook.pdf
Not sure if this is any good to you???

Thanks Tony but not really much help, very confusing isn't it ?
Measurements in inches or cms ? and why two tyre sizes for each type of wheel? More questions than answers ...
Bob.

Bob I have a Hawker Siddeley detailed GA drawing HC000H0003 of the BAe 146-100 dated 21.10.77 that could be used to scale tyre sizes etc if you would like to borrow it.
Regards
John
PS - Size is 1/20 scale and very large single sheet.

Ahh..John, a month ago it would have been a godsend although scanning it would have been a problem. We are now past the stage where we can alter the main structure dimensions without starting from scratch
However, if you know the scale and can measure the nose wheel you may be able to answer one of my queries.
Bob.

Hi Bob -
See Section 22 (on p9):
http://easa.europa.eu/certification/typ ... 062008.pdf
The low-pressure tyres were an option for operating on 'soft' runways. It may have been standard for military versions.
EDIT: Those tyre sizes would be in inches. 24cm would be small on a motor scooter (= about 9.5 inches)
