You're a VC10 pilot? I'd love a flight on one of those. I wonder if you might be able to get me on board?

maybe they should do Farewell VC-10 flights lke BA did with Concorde

Thanks for the information Dave im sure they say what the engines will be soon,
Wonder if the RAF will ever think of having an A318 VIP for the Queen flight

James..
There are various options for the military A330 and RR Trents are one. I can't see the RAF buying anything else can you??

The Out-of-Service date for the VC10 is late 2013 so there is life in the old girl yet! Her days as a VIP carrier are long over though. The numbers of airframes will reduce over the next few years so do go and see them while you can!
Sorry Ant1981... we cannot fly civilians on the ac any more!
Tonks
And yes, the FSTA (or KC-30 as it will probably be known) will have RR engines!
Have a look here

Is the TriStar carrying on....for a bit at least??
I get the impression it is until the early 20's
Another question
Given the added safety of more engines..especially in hostile maintenance/frontline and enemy action conditions.....why the 340 was not chosen??
Just curious

Well, the 340 is a very long range ac which we don't need and the pods for the AAR kit go in the same place the out-board engines would have been...

Well I think the MOD will do a contract with HHA for them to fly hunters for the RAF soon and they sell the typhoon see the RAF being rebranded to Contract Royal Air Force

people are saying on other fourms that they should buy the F-18 then the F-35B but thats another

And Tonks calling it KC-30 makes me think an American tanker , I prefer to call it A330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport)
Oh that sucks we cant fly on the VC-10

No doubt the MRTT is a pretty good airframe, but you have to remember that more isn't always better. KC-X has the requirements it does for a reason. The USAF has kept the KC-135 around for a specific reason and the KC-X is to replace it, not the KC-10. That is what the KC-Y program is for and where the MRTT should be marketed.

Yeah, but KC-30 is the Australian designation for it. The US designation was/would be KC-45A.

Hi Chris
Yes.. I agree that more isn't always better. For our part, the 330 is to replace both the VC10 and Tristar leaving us overall with less aircraft than those 2 fleets combined but with the same capability. We don't have the proliferation of types in service nor can we afford them so for us.. this fits our operational requirements much better
