Out of interest what game was it?

I'd love to know too, because I have had Steam for quite some time and downloaded it before buying anything via it because it's not "unknown", it's a very reputable and well designed system that allows you to download games and DLC for it without having to worry about it being put all over creation in separate locations and separate entries to your registry. I have Silent Hunter 4, RailWorks 2, and a couple of other minor games via Steam and I've never had a problem with it. Additionally, they screen all the files before putting it up for download, so I know that not only will my computer anti-virus check it, but they do to, and there were a couple of programs I'm aware of that had DLC rejected by Steam because of illegal components or viruses in the upload.

Mike is absolutely right - same thing happened with me, as steam was coming online mainstream, with Half Life 2.

I did exactly the same, Mike, and sold the game to a mate. I, too, was disgusted and angry.

I do have an account myself now (fedupski) but from my own choice and for a specific reason.

Lots of people like Steam and lots of people wouldn't touch it with a mile-long bargepole.

As everything else in life - each to his own.

However, if FSX was only available via Steam, I wouldn't be flying it

I honestly don't remember. I have a suspicion it may have been a steam loco simulation, which is no longer around, because the development team fell apart after a very promising beginning.
Probably pre-MSTS, or thereabouts.

I think steam is good and not the black Messiah of doom.
I installed MW2 and it re-installed my lost Half Life 2 game and saves. That's pretty cool.

It may well be - I wouldn't know because I never used it. The point is that six or seven or maybe more years ago, someone I had never heard of decided I needed this also unheard-of software on my machine, and proceeded to install it without troubling to inform me. As a result, I won't have anything to do with the software or any product associated with it. No skin off my nose...

Hi Guys

Been using steam since HL2 came out.

Never had a single problem

Annoying when Arma2 updates replace whole 5 gb files when non steam is a 400 mb download but otherwise fine.

That's a developer decision, not Steam unfortunately. I had that problem with NASA's Moonbase Alpha (which is part of why I removed it from my machine even though it was free and I was using it for Civil Air Patrol with cadets to be able to learn with it). However, when RailWorks2 updates, it only updates what needs to be updated, just like the normal download version. It's all in how the developer does it.

5GB is my download allowance for a whole month and exceeding that limit means penalty charges which can get very expensive.
As it happens I rarely use more than 4GB, but I'm sure you see why I don't want automated updaters doing as they please.
