When you think that one cubic metre of water weighs one tonne (2200 lbs), and that the smaller Japanese cars weigh less than that, it's a wonder it wasn't just flattened.
I was through Grantham (Qld) the other day - there was a standard (20') container on end, like a ladder leaning against a tree, and in the branches about 6' higher up was a big 4WD Landcruiser/Pajero/Patrol size.
Couldn't look too long, was watching the traffic.

I was on a reef at low tide many years ago on the site of a ship that had been broken up the night before

Hull plates bent in such a way the it would take a mighty press to bed it so far over such a small area. It has to be sen to be believed.

This guy was lucky, on the Boxing Day Tsunami some of the first hit were the survivors. At least all had to contend with was the water....deadly as that is but as it rushes inland it becomes full of glass, metal and other debris that just rips everything up in it's path.
