That is on the Avion DVD. In preperation for
its landing, the crew had hovered in a helicopter on the approach path to get a good idea, and local residents were warned. Presumably they were also warned of
Superbs arrival.

Thanks Chris
When the Beverly flew into Hendon they forgot to tell the residents

. The airfield had been closed for sometime
The authorities were inundated with calls about a large 'plane going down behind the houses

Yes! That was on the programme: 'Goodbye London Aerodrome'. So instead of just the planned one Fire engine and Landrover, they were inundated with Police cars, Fire engines, the lot!

Robbie..
I've not been able to get any further info on Peter's death other than he was only 71. The museum don't know either but we're hoping to get a brief from his daughter when she collects the video/dvd that has been put together for her of Superb's arrival.

Dear me.. that's one very sorry looking B74

That nice green algae/moss effect is how it would look after 12 months in the Aero park at Brooklands

Not 100% sure but I think she may have had rather more runway to play with in the 80's. BAC had only recently closed (in the grand scale of things) Weybridge and the assembled dignitaries watched the arrival from the roof of the old control tower. I'll see if I can get a better copy ;k
Hi Dave, you're correct. A4O-AB landed on the complete runway while the 1-11 and Vanguard had to settle for the shortened version. There's a video 'Aviation at Brooklands' that used to be sold at the shop which showed all three landings if I'm correct. I'll dig it out and have a look at it sometime this week if possible. There are only short bits though.
If you can get a better copy of that disc, any chance of a copy for me?

Sure thing Jelle
The 'Brooklands.. The Birthplace of British Aviation' video is long gone I'm afraid mate and managed a full 10-12 seconds of PEP's landing right at the end of the tape. Can't recall seeing SYD on it at all (though that doesn't mean it's not there)

After a
very long wait, the VHS has been replace by a DVD of the same title but the DVD has been 'updated'. What 'updated' means is that new stuff has been put in but other stuff has been removed.. in particular PEP landing

Most of the new bits are (from what I remember) clips of interviews with George Edwards.. interesting, yes but not at the cost of removing other interesting bits. It IS a dvd after all and you can cram an awful lot of video onto a dvd.
I'll look at the DVD again to confirm A4O's landing (I'm pretty sure that's still there) and to check if SYD made it
