I wonder if anyone has ever thought of an automatic gear change for such a bike...You could have some sort of pressure senser in the pedals that would signal the gear change...Then you could have a manual lever on the handle bars that would allow you to change the pedal pressure at which the gear change would occur... *-)

Been a few with auto gear systems Peter .

But honestly they wouldn't hold up to the torture the man beast on this forum put a bike through.

Instead of more gears just mount a home made turbojet to the back for those long uphill sections...
Now where did I put that old turbocharger...?

Well I won't be out and about in this nice weather for a while. Feckin wheel bearing collapsed at 70mph.
Good job I had breakdown cover eh.

Thought I had a flat tire at first as the back end started weaving about. Closer inspection revealed the right hand bearing was fcuked. I'm surprised there was no prior warning as I'd only cleaned and lubed the chain a few days before and seemed fine then. Oh well, stuff happens...

It's still a bit early to get any snaps as pretty as those. There's a new trail set to open just north of Des Moines next weekend, and it should be a stunner in the fall. It's an old railroad right-of-way and they've rebuilt an old rail bridge over the Des Moines River Valley. I may just get over my slight acrophobia to enjoy the view.

I'll be sure to share some snaps when I work up the courage to ride across. :)
