Well, what I think is ...
If the film was a dogumentary then one would be entitled to expect it to be historically accurate and maintain dogged attention to detail
However, if it's a 'movie' then it's job is to entertain as many people as possible. Investors in the film company will expect the producer to deliver a return on their investment and bums on seats is the main purpose. Offending a large part of the potential market wouldn't seem like a very clever move. It's a clear case of the tail wagging the dog.
And Fry has still got to write a scene where Kate Winslet (or similar) gets her boobies out. I hope you lot aren't going to disallow that just because it didn't happen!
